8 Tips for taking care of your skin

1) Make sure you have a healthy diet, enriched with the vitamins and minerals your skin needs.

Vitamin A is essential for repair of the skin tissue-without it your skin will look dry and flaky. Vitamin A is found in fruits and veggies-so load up.

2) Remove your makeup before you go to sleep.

When buying makeup, make sure you choose brands that say “noncomedogenic” or “nonacnegenic” on the label. Throw away old makeup that smells or looks different from when you first bought it.

3) Don’t Pop Pimples.

It’s tempting, but here’s why you shouldn’t: Popping pimples can push infected material further into the skin, leading to more swelling and redness, and even scarring. If you notice a pimple coming before a big event, like the prom, a dermatologist can often treat it for you with less risk of scarring or infection.

4) Use the Right products.

Remember that whatever you put on your skin, goes into your bloodstream and into your cells, and therefore effects the quality of your skin.Go with effective, natural products that do not use artificial preservatives, sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, butylene glycol, dimethicone, phenoxyethanol…you get the idea.

5) Keep Clean.

Remember to change your pillowcase out regularly – your face and hair are pressing against this fabric for 8 hours every night, so it makes sense to clean it about once per week. Better yet, look into getting a pair of silk pillowcases so you can switch them out and treat your skin to a non-abrasive fabric.Oh, and try not to touch or pick your face, which can lead to blemishes if dirt and bacteria from your hands make their way into your lovely little pores.

6) Drink Lots of Water.

Yes I know you’ve heard it a thousand times before but it’s really essential. It provides your skin with moisture and keeps you hydrated.

7) Choose a good sunscreen.

Sunscreen should block both UVA and UVB rays. Look for the words “broad spectrum protection” or UVA protection in addition to the SPF of 15 or greater. Select a sunscreen that says “nonacnegenic” or “noncomedogenic” on the label to help keep pores clear.

8) Don’t be afraid of D.I.Y.

There are many homemade recipes for skin care that are super simple, super cheap, and super effective. They are great to use on a weekly basis (or even for a few days in a row to correct a problem). For instance, to create an even skin tone and give your skin a heaping dose of antioxidants. For example:  You can use Olive oil plus a little amount of sugar as a scrub & moisturizer.
